Have you ever watched a scent detection dog work to find an odor? Whether it's a narcotics dog, an explosives sniffing dog or a search and rescue dog, these canines have been trained to identify and search for a target odor. Dogs all over the world are skilled in using their sense of smell to find things like bedbugs, illegal drugs, illegally transported foods, explosives and many other items. It's time for your dog to get in on the sniffing fun!
Your dog can experience the excitement and thrill of scent detection work using his incredibly powerful sense of smell while the two of you develop a greater bond as you work together playing these effective and fun scent games.
This class will include:
- Odor handling guidelines
- An introduction to one scent (i.e. Birch)
- An introduction to searching boxes
- A system for working through distractions
- An introduction to interior searches
- Other scent games as time allows
Dogs and people of all ages and abilities can participate in scent work. No prior training or skills are required. It's really just about your dog using his nose! Scent work can be a great confidence builder for shy and nervous dogs. It can be practiced indoors or outside, and it provides you and your dog lots of fun new games to play together.
Whether you want to play scent work games for fun or you want to compete for titles; this class will provide a great introduction to the sport.
